Diagnostic Remnants

These diagnostic remnants are left over after standard of care (SoC) testing in support of patient care and are available with IRB approval, without patient research consent.

They are available from most departments, including intensive care units (ICU) and pediatric care.

The volumes available are generally smaller than are available for a prospective collection, and specimens usually have to be refrigerated for up to 5 days prior to being made available for research, in case the patients' care requires additional testing on the specimen.

These are available with IRB approval, without patient research consent.

Data:

The following data may be available to accompany diagnostic/clinical remnant samples, or as part of data-only projects:

Indications:

Please note; this is not a comprehensive list of available indications. The following reflects a range of our more recent requests and may reflect prospective requests or inventory.

Requests for rare indications, or for analytes at the extreme end of the relevant spectrum, naturally take longer to accrue.

Another consideration to factor into your study is your minimum acceptable volume; the smaller your minimum volume (ie 1ml or less), the more likely remnant specimens are to be available.

This is even more pertinent for pediatric specimens, where less than 1ml blood may be left over after diagnostic testing has been completed.

Normal controls/negatives/healthy patient specimens are also available.

Serum/Plasma/Whole Blood:

  • Type 1 Diabetes
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • BMI over 30
